HEINEKEN chooses Siemens as its partner for its zero-carbon emission program at its manufacturing plants

Recently HEINEKEN, the world's leading international beer manufacturer, decided to choose Siemens as a partner for its global Net Zero Roadmap. This is also part of HEINEKEN's plan to achieve net zero in Scope 1 and 2 at all manufacturing facilities by 2030.

The HEINEKEN carbon neutral program aims to maximize energy savings and reduce CO2 emissions by 50% at more than 15 breweries and malts globally by 2025.

Accordingly, Siemens and HEINEKEN will cooperate in a long-term carbon neutral program, in which Siemens will deploy solutions and services from the Siemens Xcelerator platform to reduce energy consumption at more than 15 manufacturing plants. HEINEKEN beer and malt, including operations in Asia-Pacific, Americas and Europe. Other facilities will be added in the second phase.

Previously HEINEKEN and Siemens had collaborated on an initial project with consulting and auditing services, using an energy digital twin to simulate and analyze a HEINEKEN brewery in the virtual world, Identify areas where significant energy savings can be achieved.

Simulations show that approximately 70% of energy is used in relation to the heating and cooling required for the beer production process. By optimizing and monitoring these cooling and heating systems through the end-to-end process, Siemens estimates energy savings of 15-20% at each facility and CO2 reductions of an average of 50% at each facility. each facility.

HEINEKEN's CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board, Dolf van den Brink, commented on the collaboration, stating that as they focus on their net zero goals in Scope 1 and 2, they realize the need for strong and ambitious steps to decarbonize their operations globally. Partnering with Siemens allows them to apply industry expertise and technological innovation quickly and on a large scale. They are pleased to embark on this journey with fueled partners who are committed to localizing solutions for future generations and helping them achieve their net zero targets.

Sharing about this cooperation, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of HEINEKEN Mr. Dolf van den Brink said:

“As we focus on delivering on our roadmap to net zero in Scope 1 and 2, we recognize that we must make strong and ambitious strides to decarbonize our operations. ourselves globally. Solving these challenges with partners like Siemens enables us to apply specialized knowledge and technological know-how to innovate quickly and on a large scale…”

To achieve the goals of reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions set out in this cooperation, Siemens said it will deploy a comprehensive program including scalable and replicable solutions and services at facilities. HEINEKEN's global manufacturing facilities.

Using operational data combined with a digital twin of the energy at each facility, Siemens will design, build and deploy systems to electrify heating and cooling using machines. The heat pump is powered by renewable energy, reducing dependence on steam generated by fossil fuels.

The system will be monitored, controlled and optimized using the Siemens Refrigeration Plant Optimization algorithm, which uses an integrated analytics approach to analyze data from the plant to reduce energy costs. quality and ensure operational efficiency.

Member of the Executive Board and Global General Director of Siemens AG's Smart Infrastructure Division Matthias Rebellius said:

“We are very proud to be a partner of the HEINEKEN Net Zero Roadmap: an ambitious journey to reach net zero by 2040. Partnering with HEINEKEN in this way represents a modern approach to with data-driven decarbonization. By collaborating on a comprehensive end-to-end program, we can combine hardware, software and analytics to predict and deliver the long-term results that are now considered critically important. important for every industry.”

As part of the long-term partnership agreement, Siemens will also provide a five-year implementation and monitoring contract, connecting manufacturing plants to Siemens systems and using data services for monitoring. Remotely monitor production facilities, ensuring that the best solution is running at all times.
